The 2012 Australian Swimming Championships will be held at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre (SAALC) in Adelaide from Thursday 15 to Thursday 22 March 2012. The most significant event on the Swimming Australia Ltd (SAL) calendar in four years, the championships will also incorporate the selection trials for the Australian Swimming Team to attend the 2012 Olympic Games to be held in London, England.

Swimming fans are still keen to see Australia’s best in action including Stephanie Rice, Libby Trickett, Leisel Jones, James Magnussen, Geoff Huegill and Ian Thorpe can head to the heats over the coming six days of the championships and ensure your live TV Link/Channel for finals action later in the meet.
“We’re absolutely thrilled that the South Australian public have got behind this significant and highly anticipated event, and are enjoying world class racing in a world class facility here in Adelaide,” said Ms Rasheed.Five-time Olympic gold medallist Ian Thorpe has recorded his fastest time in the men’s 200m freestyle, since announcing his comeback 14 months ago, to comfortably move through to the semi-finals as the equal fifth fastest qualifier.

The 13-time world record holder looked comfortable in the water stopping the clock in 1:49.16, in a dead heat with last night’s 400m freestyle champion David McKeon.“I’m very happy with the swim,” said Thorpe.“It was a pretty decent time and I’m happy with that time this morning.”
Men’s 100m Backstroke:
Canberra’s Ben Treffers posted a time of 54.59 to move through to tonight’s semi-finals in the men’s 100m backstroke as the fastest qualifier. The current Australian 100m backstroke champion was the only swimmer to go under 55 seconds and will look to secure lane 4 for Saturday night’s final.

Men’s 50m Freestyle Multi Class
Sixteen-year-old Mitchell Kilduff will be the one to catch in the men’s 50m freestyle multi class final after finishing as the fastest qualifier in the heats. Chasing him will be Chandler swimmer Daniel Fox and 8 time Paralympic gold medallist Matthew Cowdrey.
Women’s 50m freestyle Multi Class
Fresh from taking the crown in last night’s multi class 100m backstroke Kayla Clarke notched up the best time for her classification in the 50m freestyle heats in 29.09, from South Australia’s Esta Overton (1:12.24) and 17-year-old Taylor Corry (29.16).
West Australian Blair Evans is casting an imposing shadow over the field of the women’s 400m IM at the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships ahead of the opening night of finals action at the SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre in Adelaide. Looking to secure a maiden birth on the Australian Olympic team for London, 20-year-old Evans qualified fastest for tonight’s final ahead of Samantha Hamill, Amy Levings and triple Olympic gold medallist Stephanie Rice.
Women’s 50m backstroke:
Beijing Olympic relay gold medallist Emily Seebohm cruised through to the semi-final of the women’s 50m backstroke, stopping the clock at 28.02, just ahead of 27-year-old Sophie Edington in 28.71.

Men’s 50m Butterfly:
Geoff ‘Skippy’ Huegill moved through to the semis of the men’s 50m fly as the top seed after clocking a 23.74. The two-time Delhi Commonwealth Games gold medallist looked strong through the water and appeared to ease up as he approached the wall, sending an ominous sign to his rivals. Southport’s Christopher Wright (23.96) dominated his heat to move through as the second fastest swimmer with Olympic silver medallist Andrew Lauterstein (24.04) third.
The 2012 EnergyAustarlia Swimming Championships will see a record number of 198 Victorian athletes compete for Olympic and Paralympic nomination at the South Australian Sports and Aquatic Centre in Adelaide from March 15-22.Australia wide there is 834 athletes competing from 221 clubs which is an Australian Swimming Championships record.
